ALAN STRATFORD

Alan Stratford began career as an artist in 2002, after he moved to Somerset from London, following an 18 year career in graphic design to follow his life-long passion - painting.

Alan loves to explore new subject matters and painting styles and his continually broadening his talents. In 2009 Alan Stratford was awarded the ‘Artist of the Year’ accolade sponsored by Artists and Illustrators magazine for his painting entitled ‘That Certain Smile’. The painting of a young woman was worlds apart from his usual semi-abstract landscapes and this foray into a new style has led to numerous commissioned portraits of not only people but also horses.

Having recently moved to Cornwall, Alan now finds himself understandably inspired by the beauty of the Cornish landscape and 'the ever-changing drama of the sea and sky'. The result is brooding, near abstract masterpieces which are both endlessly evocative and atmospheric. We are overjoyed to have a wonderful selection of his finest work on display at St Mawes Gallery.
